According to the results of the latest Afrobarometer survey in Mauritania, climate change is a topic that is not well known among citizens.

Only a third of adults claim to have heard about climate change. Among those who are aware of the issue, more than half believe that climate change is making life in Mauritania better. However, majorities believe that ordinary citizens can contribute to combating climate change and that the government should take immediate action to limit its effects, even if this involves economic costs.

They are also largely expecting more action from developed countries, as well as from trade and industry, in the fight against the consequences of this global challenge.

Mauritania, a country affected by the impacts of climate change, faces a threat to its socio-economic development. For this reason, the government is implementing adaptation policies to minimize the phenomenon’s impacts on the country.
