According to the results of the most recent Afrobarometer survey in Mauritania, citizens support the use of corporal punishment in disciplining children, even though they acknowledge that this practice is not widespread in their communities.
Issues such as non-enrollment, violence, neglect, and abuse of children remain concerning phenomena in the country.
Moreover, Mauritanians believe that there are structures in their communities to care for vulnerable children, but they disapprove of the government’s performance in terms of child protection and promoting children’s well-being.
