According to the results of the most recent Afrobarometer survey in Mauritania, the majority of citizens have a positive view of their country’s economic situation and the direction it is heading.
However, fewer than half of Mauritanians are satisfied with their own living conditions, and large majorities report having “sometimes” lacked cash income, medical care, food, cooking fuel, and drinking water in the 12 months preceding the survey.
Despite satisfaction with the country’s direction, strong majorities disapprove of the government’s performance in stabilizing prices, creating jobs, improving the living conditions of the poor, managing the economy, and reducing the gap between the rich and the poor.
