The SISTA consulting firm, in collaboration with the HeaSCO Group, conducted an external evaluation of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in Mauritania, supervised by the World Health Organization (WHO). This mission, carried out between April and June 2022, covered all 15 regions of the country, analyzing the program’s performance in 42 districts.

The study assessed the implementation of recommendations made in 2014, identifying progress and gaps in key areas such as cold chain management, data management, and human resources. It also considered the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly its impact on vaccination activities across the country. In response, a series of recommendations were proposed to strengthen the effectiveness of the EPI in Mauritania, particularly in areas of coordination, logistics, and human resources training.
